The Seen story

During my time studying Social Anthropology at the University of Oxford, I discovered a universal truth: from the remote islands of Papua New Guinea to the bustling streets of New York City, people have always yearned for connection and community.

Later, as I led Product teams at Airbnb, I designed experiences that invited people to step into a stranger’s home anywhere in the world and feel a sense of belonging. And when I expanded Noom’s global presence, I was struck by how users initially joined to build healthier habits, but stayed for the meaningful relationships they formed with their coaches.

Growing up as an only child in China, and having lived in three countries and over a dozen cities, I know firsthand what it feels like to be alone. Yet, time and again, I’ve been fortunate to form deep, meaningful connections no matter where I’ve been. Now, amidst the Loneliness Epidemic, I feel a profound responsibility to create a platform that fosters true connection—a space that uplifts rather than distracts, and unites rather than alienates.

After years of researching how meaningful relationships are built and how feeling connected enhances both our physical and emotional well-being, Seen was born. For all of us who long to be seen—I see you. Let’s begin this journey together.
